Since I’ve been watching The Clone Wars, I thought I’d check out its primary tie-in game. As an action game it’s mediocre, and as a representation of the show it’s messy. Is there anything to like? Ummmmmm

My friend @imtherealgibbon is a noted fan of NST’s work to succeed DK94 and keep the spirit of the old Donkey Kong puzzle-platformers alive. Inspired by his example, I sought out his recommendation: the fourth in the series, and the last one with a real “plot”.
Red Dwarf Crew, Xtended, Remastered; low-res pixel style!
I made a Red Dwarf pixel art a long time ago, but I’ve improved my pixeling skills since then, and the show has had two new series! So here’s the updated version of my fanficcy what-if scenario: what would it look like if every friendly-ish character that could have joined the crew did? I bent my own rules for some of these, for the purposes of fun, but in a show like this nothing is too implausible.
This was a lot of fun to draw, but half the fun is expanding on the characters and coming up with justifications for how they could have banded together. I’ll put that stuff beneath a Read More thing this time, but first a basic list of all the folks here.

After falling for Sonic Rush I intended to pursue its lineage through Rush Adventure and Colours DS, before finishing at Generations 3DS as the final evolution of the formula under Dimps. I had to move the schedule up though, for the Streetpass opportunities that my trip to Japan afforded me. Consequently I played through the 3DS version while over there, then followed it with the console version when I got back.

Guess what, I played a Picross game. Running this through my New 3DS kept me company during travel in Japan and on some quiet nights at home. Mechanically it’s identical to the Game Boy instalments but having colour and larger puzzles (that aren’t broken up as in 2) makes a difference.

This month for the retro game club, the biggest Saturn fan I know chose–to the surprise of no one–the archetypal Saturn game. Sonic Team’s first 3D venture is imaginative and unique, but doesn’t quite succeed on all its aims.
Star Trek Discovery (Season 1), low-res pixel style!
It seems premature to draw this show’s characters when it’s not over yet, but eh, I like ‘em too much. It’s a good show, and a good Star Trek. Here’s the “main cast” of Season 1, plus a couple.
Michael Burnham, Saru, Sylvia Tilly, Paul Stamets, Hugh Culber, Gabriel Lorca, Ash Tyler, L’Rell
@miloscat found this wonderful 4-koma while searching through various Mario manga. Peach is doing love charms and wants some of Mario’s hair to make a charm. Pauline shows up flaunting that she’s already got some. The two proceed to rip all Mario’s hair out trying to out-love charm each other hehehe

Diablo 3 is a good game to relax to. It’s accessible—especially on console—it’s satisfying, and it’s not too demanding. At least, when you don’t know how to change the difficulty.

Thanks to retro game club I organise, it’s back to the stage-based Castlevania well for the cut-down alternate retelling of Rondo of Blood, Dracula X/Vampire’s Kiss/Akumajou Dracula XX. I previously reviewed Rondo on PSP and it did eventually win me over. I can’t say the same for its SNES sibling.
Hi friends, I and my good friend @imtherealgibbon were on our friend Mitchell Wolfe’s podcast this week. It was a friendly time. We discussed the Super Mario Bros. movie, which we are all very fond of! It was a really fun and jam-packed discussion. Of course my own insecurities make me terrified and embarrassed to listen back to it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! Glug glug glug glug
Here’s a link! It’s 72 minutes long.

I’ve played other WarioWares before, but going back to the original showed me how solid the formula was right from the outset, and how subsequent games have only iterated on it or layered extra input gimmicks on top.
Let’s have a look back at this blog’s archive for the year, and my gaming life in general. Join me after the jump if you like.
For most of December we took a trip over to Japan again, so I thought I’d share some gaming-related tidbits from my time there.

December’s game for the retro game club I organise was chosen by @cameronreigle (check out his art!). Although I had to rush through it in four days late in the month, I found it a charming and well-put together platformer with much to recommend it.
