Hot off the heels of MSF (not that one, the other one), this sequel is more of the same with some fun new puzzley tweaks.
First of all, it was odd to me to play the games in the order I did. This sequel was released before the “Hyper Drive” rerelease of the original game and its updated vector artwork, so suddenly the in-game graphics are pixel-style. Not that I’m complaining, as I think WayForward excels at both.
Either way, this is very much in line with the previous review. Puzzle platforming with action/timing elements is the order of the day. This time the cyborg cop Patricia Wagon has taken on firefighting. You still have to find five people per level, but it’s to rescue them, not arrest them. There’s more use of the “shoot” button which this time fires a stream of water with a particular projectile profile, used for dealing with both enemies and fires that dot the levels. They’re sometimes obstacles, sometimes a chance for a random health drop.
The water physics open up some new possibilities for challenges, including new pipe-based mechanics that add on to the returning block flipping. Other than that (and the new optional objective of rescuing babies) it’s very, very similar to its predecessor, right down to the main menu screen having an identical layout. This also means it’s short, with 16 levels and—this time—no extra bonus stages or difficulty modes. I wanted more, because it’s a well-crafted little game!
