The original purpose of this blog was to review games I’d played. That purpose continues, in the review tag. Here’s some other things I do in this blog and elsewhere.
Translation:
Old video game comics is the main thing I’ve translated. The main project has been getting all the comics from Club Nintendo, Germany’s official Nintendo magazine, readable in English (along with Opentrain). This has involved many short 4-8 page comics and a few longer-form 32-page ones such as Yoshi’s Island and DKC2. Check the Club Nintendo tag to see them.
Other comic translations I’ve done include Super Mario-kun (a silly kids’ comic featuring Mario and friends) from Japanese, and some reader-submitted comics from Spanish gaming magazine Hobby Consolas. Donkey Konga 3 intro translation. This Japan-exclusive instalment in the GCN DK Bongo series actually has a plot, so someone needed to translate it to English! That someone was me.
Other stuff:
Pixel art. I discovered something of a talent for converting beloved characters to tiny low-detail pixel recreations. These are some of my most popular posts for some reason; probably because they’re more digestible than most of my stuff!
The ridiculously expanded Zelda Timeline. Based on Hyrule Historia’s official timeline, this is my attempt to fit in as much pseudo-canonical pieces of Zelda fiction as possible on top of the proper game chronology.
Donkey Kong Card Game collection. I collected all the scans and pictures I could find with the aim of amassing as complete a visual archive as I could of the cards in the Japanese Donkey Kong trading card game. Check the tag for more related stuff.
The DKU Honourable Mentions List. This is something that took a while to put together, a list of games that were not strictly DKU (ie. connected closely to the Donkey Kong Country series) but were related by references or whatever. I wrote up descriptions of the nature of their relationship to DK and friends, in several categories. This is now being converted to a main site feature on DKVine.com.
Video game manual scans. I scanned quite a few manuals, for archival purposes and to help people who have acquired games without manuals for whatever reason.
Club Nintendo comics database. To help keep track of all the comics published in Club Nintendo and aid the collection and scanlation process, I compiled a spreadsheet with all the known comics, with issue number, year, characters appearing, number of pages and where to find the raws and translations, if any.
The Howard & Nester Ultimate Collection. An archive I put together of all the material related to the Howard & Nester comic both in and out of the pages of Nintendo Power.
Miis. I’ve made a few Miis based on characters I like.
