If you’ve seen translations of these mangas and want me to retweet them here, signal me with messages, or catch my Twitter, @satsy. I’m on there more often than most things.
Check this out! The guy who did the Star Fox and Super Metroid comics for Nintendo Power (and Pokemon Snap official art), Benimaru Itoh, also did an Earthbound/Mother 2 full-length manga. It’s been localised and scanlated to an absurdly high standard by Kenisu. I’ve been waiting for this for a while, and it’s worth the wait! Also check out Satsy’s blog (the source of this post) for even more Mother manga scans (mostly doujin), some of it’s been translated too.
I don’t know how this took me this long. What an amazing series. You can now play Mother 1 on your Wii U, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Use Mato’s Easy Ring patch for the GBA version instead, it’s balanced much better and the colours are more vibrant anyway. I decided to cover the main 4 characters of each game, using the clay models as reference for 1 and 2, and sprites for 3 since there is literally no official art. Boney’s in his disguise because it’s easier to draw him upright. Striped shirts are hard with so few pixels. I wanted to put in Salsa, but then where to stop? Pippi, Picky? There’s no way Brick Road or Eve would fit next to everyone else…
Some gaming papercrafts me and Everbloom made the other day. It was heaps of fun, but some were more fiddly than others. I made Zero, Samus, and Mr Saturn, she made Toon Link, Chibiterasu and this super complicated Japanese-style bridge that she took to work. They come from various sources, nothing beyond simple google searches.
I just noticed now that we ended up with two competing franchise styles from Nintendo and Capcom, as Metroid and Megaman are often compared and Okami took more than a few cues from Zelda. Mr Saturn’s a bonus. ;)
