While I’m underwater, might as well check some things off my backlog. Here’s a cool open-world/maze shmup with a unique if distracting visual gimmick.

As a capper to a set of games about divers, Abzu is a bit more out there but a sublime experience, very artful. Spoilers below!

Overcooked 2 is an exemplary sequel, delivering more of the same madcap task-juggling while layering on new inventive kitchen chaos.

Konjak’s magnum opus (so far), Iconoclasts’ colourful art belies an emotionally charged story filled with tragedy and intensity. It’s also a great Metroidvania with some novel mechanics!

I wasn’t able to completely finish Poncho… which is appropriate, because the developer has admitted that the game was not completed to their satisfaction, especially the buggy PS4 port. I’m frustrated by the state of the game because it has a nice world and some good ideas.

20XX is a pretty cool game. It mashes together the sidescrolling gameplay of Rockman (particularly the X and Zero series) with a roguelike structure, and pulls it off well.
